Herpes zoster used to be more common in middle-aged and older people. In recent years it has become more common among younger people. People with one or more chronic diseases are "high-risk". This vaccine has been recommended as the first choice by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It is recommended that high-risk individuals aged 18 or above and those aged 50 or above to get vaccinated.
